Pine Lake Park

In partnership with the Bloomfield Hills School Board of Education, WB Parks will transform this 21-acre plot into a new and improved park space for the greater West Bloomfield community over the next five years.
The park currently includes:
- A ball field
- A playground
- A basketball court
- Two tennis courts with pickleball lines painted on them
- Nature trails
- Seasonal portable restrooms
Updates on Park Improvements
WB Parks is currently planning a new nature-based playground at Pine Lake Park—the first of its kind in our park system. Designed to encourage nature-based play, environmental stewardship, and healthy child development, the playground will also support naturalist-led interpretive programs and outdoor learning experiences.
Proposed features include grassy mounds, retaining walls with ground-level caves, climbing walls with tunnels, log piles, slides, boulder mazes, swings, zip lines, and shaded seating areas for families. The project is pending final engineering work and Township approval. Construction of the playground and accessible pathways is anticipated to begin in the spring, with the playground expected to open in the fall.

Master Planning
West Bloomfield Parks has been working to create a “long-term vision” for Pine Lake Park. The vision may take us a number of years to fund and build, but we want to be sure we’re thinking about the long-term use as well as being conscious of our environmental impacts, before we get started on making improvements.

Pine Lake Park FAQs
What upgrades will be made at the park?
Investments into Pine Lake Park will include parking lot repairs, updated tennis courts, a basketball court, pickleball courts, ball field improvements, new playground equipment, trail enhancements and more.
When will improvements take place?
Park improvements will begin in 2026 and take approximately 5 years to complete. WB Parks has completed a master plan of the site to finalize amenity upgrades and to assist in budget planning. Upgrades will be phased in over the five-year period.
Why were the playgrounds removed?
Two of the three play structures did not meet national safety standards and were deemed unsafe by our Certified Playground Safety Inspectors. One playground was repaired to meet safety standards and will remain open until a new playground can be installed. A new playground is planned for installation in 2026, pending approval.
Will there be a dog park at the new park site?
Part of our lease agreement with Bloomfield Hills School District includes a restriction on any off-leash dog area. We encourage residents to utilize the West Bloomfield Dog Park instead.
Will current Bloomfield Hills Schools baseball user groups have priority to the field?
Yes, that is written into the lease agreement terms.
Will permanent restrooms be added?
A permanent restroom facility would cost upwards of $500,000. We have prioritized other park improvements but would consider a permanent restroom facility in the future should funding allow for one.
Will the woodlands surrounding the property remain standing?
Yes, the trees will remain. Some tree trimming will occur as part of our standard park maintenance practices that we use in all our other properties.
Could there by a crosswalk across the north side of Pine Lake to the Park entrance so that users could have a safer way to cross to the Park?
Oakland County Road Commission is not able to install a cross walk. It does not meet the “line of site” safety standers that the County has.
What will the park hours be?
8 am until dusk (20 minutes after sunset), the same for all of West Bloomfield Parks’ properties.
