Our parks, trails, facilities and recreation programs play an important role in making West Bloomfield a great place to live, work and play.

As our community continues to grow and evolve, we’re creating a new Master Plan to guide future improvements and investments over the next five years.

This planning process is driven by community input. Whether you visit our parks every day or only occasionally, your feedback will help us better understand the needs, priorities and opportunities that will shape the future of our organization.

What is a Parks & Recreation Master Plan?

A Parks & Recreation Master Plan is a long-range strategic guide that establishes a vision for the future of our parks, recreation facilities, trails, open spaces and programs. It evaluates our existing system, identifies community needs and prioritizes improvements that will enhance quality of life for residents for years to come.

The Master Plan helps us:

  • Assess current parks, facilities and recreation services.
  • Understand community needs and priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for future amenities.
  • Develop goals and recommendations for future improvements.
  • Create a roadmap that guides decision-making and future investments.
  • Maintain eligibility for grant funding opportunities through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund.

Project Timeline

The Master Plan will be developed over several months through research and public and employee engagement. Key milestones include:

Phase 1: Project Kickoff

  • Review existing parks, facilities, programs and previous planning efforts.
  • Gather background information and establish project goals.

Phase 2: Community Engagement

  • Launch a community survey.
  • Host a public meeting and stakeholder discussions.

Phase 3: Needs Assessment & Draft Recommendations

  • Analyze survey results and public input.
  • Evaluate existing parks and recreation services.
  • Develop draft goals, priorities and recommendations.

Phase 4: Draft Master Plan

  • Share the draft plan with the community.
  • Gather additional public feedback.
  • Refine recommendations based on comments received.

Phase 5: Final Plan Adoption

  • Present the final Master Plan to the Commission for approval.
  • Begin implementing priority projects and initiatives.
The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is open through September 30, 2026.
